PARIS - The emerging science rocket company has made its first launch into orbit, with maiden launches expected in the second half of 2023.
Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA), headquartered in Bavaria, is on track for the first launch of its RFA One rocket by 2023, RFA spokesman Jonas Kellner told Space.com at the International Astronautical Conference in Paris in September.
“The next step that we are preparing at the moment is the integrated system tests where the second stage is already qualified to fly, including all pressurization systems and bionics and everything, and we integrate it with a helix engine for the full flight duration. The second phase," Kellner said. "After that, we'll do the same with the first phase in Q1, Q2, early next year, and then it's ready for the end of 2023."

The three-liquid RFA One is designed to launch a 3,500-pound (1,600 kg) into low-Earth orbit, powered by the Helix stage combustion engine. RFA is testing its engines in Kiruna, Sweden, located inside the Arctic Circle.
Once the engines are tested and ready, the company will ship the first RFA One to Saxavard, a commercial spaceport currently under construction in the Shetland Islands, about 100 miles (160 km) off the northeast coast of Scotland.
